About Us

Building Diagnostics & Property Science (BD&PS) was founded in 2005 with the goal of providing professional engineering consulting services to not only solve existing problems in buildings but also improve the performance of new buildings via building commissioning, building envelope consulting/testing, and evaluating energy management systems.  BD&PS provides Total Building Commissioning, LEED Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning; Building Envelope Commissioning and Envelope Testing services including Air Tightness Testing using a Blower Door System and Window Testing.

BD&PS’s technical staff consists of individuals with expertise in mechanical engineering, building commissioning, energy management, building envelopes and testing, indoor air quality, and environmental engineering.  We have significant experience with investigating and diagnosing problems with HVAC and controls systems as well as vast knowledge of diagnostic techniques for testing and analyzing building envelopes.  Proper diagnosis of these problems relies on the years of hands on experience with HVAC and controls systems, as well as the advanced diagnostic techniques possessed by our team.  Our specialization in building envelope testing gives us the unique understanding of where building envelopes most commonly fail and this allows us to incorporate that knowledge into the commissioning process and deliver higher performing more efficient buildings.

BD&PS is involved in promoting the progression of the industry.  Notable contributions include:

  •  BD&PS assisted the state of Alabama in the development of Commissioning Specifications for K-12 Schools, and provided training sessions for the superintendents of the school districts regarding the process and benefits of commissioning.
  •  BD&PS organized and conducted the 2011 Southeast Regional Building Commissioning Association’s Fall Conference which brought together Commissioning Professionals, Owners, Property Managers, Contractors, Architects, and Engineers from across the Southeast in an effort to educate them about how to get the most from the Commissioning process, the future of Commissioning and how LEED is improving high performance and energy efficient buildings, and new techniques to achieve and verify building performance
